Some of you might know that we’ve added a new photographer to our team — the awesome Rachel Couch! But just in case you didn’t…she is seriously. rad.
Rachel singlehandedly obtained permission for Pop! Wed Co. to do a wedding at The National Building Museum‘s summer installation, The Beach, which is potentially the most Instagrammed museum installation ever? (I’m just making that fact up based on the number of ball pit selfies I’ve seen on FB.)
We planned their wedding for a weekday to avoid as many crowds as possible — there’s something about weekday weddings that are just full of <3 and magic! Melissa and Kevin had one of the most unique wedding locations possible, and their wedding day was filled with amazingness in the form of giant grins, inflatable beach toys, and a gorgeous red dress that Melissa wore to pay homage to Kevin’s Indian heritage. Talk about making a wedding unique and feel totally “you”! Their wedding was amazing, and Rachel captured the whole thing. Check it out!
We asked Melissa and Kevin about their wedding day…
Why did you want to have a Pop! Wedding?
We had been engaged for over 2 years and different life obstacles kept getting in the way of getting married. We were thinking that we should just go to the justice of peace and then my friend Jenn sent me a link to an article about Pop! Wed and I was so excited. I showed Kevin and we decided that it was perfect. Plus the idea of us being the only ones that would have a wedding at “The Beach” was amazing!
How did you share your alternative wedding plans with your families?
We both called our parents to make sure they date would work and then we explained the best that we could how a pop wedding worked. I think they were all not sure what was going to happen, but were excited that we were finally getting married. We then called our small group of family and friends to invite them. It was amazing that they were able to make travel arrangements to come and celebrate with us in under 3 weeks!
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Being able to enjoy every moment and not to be stressed out. It was such a super fun day and we were able to enjoy everyone, but most of all each other. You can tell by the pictures Rachel took that everyone had a fun time and that’s what we wanted.
